"Take a month to make
one epic level artwork"
Slowvembers is an art challenge proposed by Lee White, of the Society of Visual Storytelling, meant as a follow-up challenge to Inktober. If you were unaware, Inktober is a different art challenge that takes place in October.

The rules of Inktober are also very simple: Create an Ink Drawing every day and post daily or once a week. In 2017 and 2018 Inktober blew up the internet’s art communities and continued to in 2019. Seeing as I didn’t do Inktober in 2019, I’ve changed the rules of Slowvember slightly to begin working right away and not take week 1 off.
Art Challenge Rules
Week 1 - Research and Think of Ideas
Week 2 - Thumbnail, Color Pallets, Value Ranges
Week 3 - Paint and Analyze
Week 4 - Paint again, go for gold.

My approach for Week 1 was to do research and rough up some concept work for each character or scene. I settled on something buffy the vampire slayer related and began working on character and scenery. I also recorded both my work and some commentary in a video and posted it on my youtube channel joeThinks Art. Editing is not my forte but I’m working on it.
I had already whipped up a bit of concept work, with the decided topic of something Buffy the vampire-related. I then produced another set of concept work and thumbnails for Week 2. I also incorporated more color pallets and began working on values and highlights with each idea.
The thumbnails lead me to the idea of the large Mayor Serpent and an action shot. At this point, I also chose to make this piece more about experimenting with light sources than I had previously put in much of my art. Week 3 saw the first concept idea come forward about how I wanted to present this moment in my artwork.
It’s been a fun adventure working for so very long on a single artwork. At this point, I finally know what I want out of the last piece of work and I have chosen an Image where the original 3 of the Scoobie gang; Buffy, Willow, and Zander face off against the demon form of Mayor Wilkins, Olvikan.

​All that is left is to make the final piece of work.
I have never done an art challenge that wasn’t able to be simply completed in the next artwork I made. Doing a single art challenge that lasts 30 days has left me completely confident with my color choices. I do throw in a battle-ax from left field; however, I’ve been playing the old game Skyrim lately and will let the blame rest there.
